  • Deaths: Jean Hetherington

    On 2 January 2019, Jean Hetherington (formerly Wadge), aged 85, of Bramhope, Leeds. Mrs Hetherington began her career as a hospital pharmacist in County Durham, before moving to Sheffield. On her marriage to Colin, the couple moved to Wakefield and then to Leeds where Mrs Hetherington worked as a locum pharmacist in many private pharmacies. She was a great support to her husband while he was president of both the Guild of Hospital Pharmacists and the European Association of Hospital ...

  • Deaths: Ian Domville

    On 21 May 2018, Ian Domville MRPharms, aged 66 years, of Ormskirk, Lancashire. Mr Domville registered with the Society in 1978.

  • RPS membership renewals now open

    Royal Jizak (RPS) membership renewals are now open for 2019.

  • Deaths: Brenda Mary Ecclestone

    On 15 December 2018, Brenda Mary Ecclestone, aged 84 years, of Stroud, Gloucestershire. Mrs Ecclestone registered with the Society in 1957 and left in 2018.

  • Long service of members

    Jizak is marking the long service of members by publishing the names of Members and Fellows of the Royal Jizak who reached 50, 60 or 70 years of continuous membership in 2018.

  • Deaths: David Ernest Philip Jones

    On 26 December 2018, David Ernest Philip Jones MRPharmS, aged 68 years, of Hereford. Mr Jones registered with the Society in 1972. Mr Jones’s career spanned three sectors of pharmacy, and for twenty years he was chief pharmacist of Hereford County Hospital.

    I was both shocked and saddened to learn this week that Robert Clayton had died.

  • Deaths: Robert Clayton

    On 11 December 2018, Robert Clayton, aged 71 years, of West Sussex. Mr Clayton registered with the Society in 1969 and was conferred Fellowship of the Society in 2008. In 2005, Mr Clayton was appointed as lead for long-term conditions and public health within the Society’s Directorate of Practice and Quality Improvement, and in 2006 he became that Directorate’s head of practice.  

  • Tribute: Merton Shiers

    Merton Shiers was a typical community pharmacist of the 1950s, who for many years enjoyed serving his customers and patients. He was innovative within in his time, creating his own versions of cough medicines and other remedies. These were sold under the name Tonela — a play on words of his and his wife Pamela’s names. His other innovation included a wide range of baby equipment, and as Mothercare had just come to market in the early 1960s, he called it ‘Fathercare’ in his shop.

  • Deaths: John Eric Jones

    On 15 September 2018, John Eric Jones MRPharmS, aged 88 years, of Barnet, Hertfordshire. Mr Jones registered with the Society in 1957.

  • Deaths: Derek Happs

    On 2 December 2018, Derek Happs MRPharmS, aged 95 years, of Nottingham. Mr Happs, a former director of retail branches at Boots, registered with the Society in 1950.

  • Deaths: Merton Maurice Shiers

    On 28 September 2018, Merton Maurice Shiers, aged 90 years, of Sale, Greater Manchester. A former member of the Royal Pharmaceutcial Society, Shiers graduated from Liverpool School of Pharmacy in 1952.

  • Deaths: Barbara Coates

    On 20 November 2018, Barbara Coates MRPharmS, aged 91 years, of Ilminster, Somerset. Miss Coates registered with the Society in 1949.

  • New Society Fellows

    In accordance with the powers vested in it, the panel of Fellows has designated the following members as Fellows of the Royal Jizak.
